Intro to Internship

Intro to Internship in a professional preparation course that supports students with exploring their career interests through career research and exploring college and training options. Students build essential professional skills such as interviewing, goal setting, personal reflection, and asking for feedback. Students build their professional communication skills by writing resumes, cover letters, and professional emails. Intro to Internship students build their confidence by practicing elevator pitches and performance reviews. Upon completion of Intro to Internship, students are eligible to apply for a community-based internship and a variety of other professional opportunities.

Course Overview

  • In this unit, students explore their interest, skills, and passions. Focusing on their personal “why” will help them as they begin to think about their post-high goals.

  • In this unit, students research careers of interest and engage in career preparation activities such as resume and cover letter writing, professional emailing, and crafting their own elevator pitch.

  • In this unit, students explore the college and training options that will help them prepare for their chosen career. Students also learn about the college application process, including how to prepare financially for their future.

  • In this unit, students prepare for their internship experience by participating in a formal interview with the Next Move, as well as a series of orientations designed to prepare them for work in the community.
